How to create QR codes for websites and Wi-Fi

QR codes can connect printed signs and menus to websites or share Wi-Fi access with guests. Before using a code, verify that a phone can scan it and that it opens the intended destination.

Step-by-step

  1. 01

    Choose the content type

Enter a website URL in the Link/Text tab. To share wireless network settings, select the Wi-Fi tab instead.

  2. 02

Fill in Wi-Fi settings if needed

Enter the correct network name (SSID), security type and password. Remember that anyone receiving the QR code may gain access to those connection details.

  3. 03

    Choose QR colors and dimensions

Select 256, 512 or 1024 pixels. A light background and dark modules generally make the pattern easier to scan.

  4. 04

    Generate, test and download

Create the QR code, test it with a phone camera and verify the destination before downloading the PNG.

Things to know

  • Long content creates denser QR patterns that can be difficult to scan when printed small.
  • A downloaded PNG is static. Changing the original URL later will not modify previously distributed copies.
  • Keep enough clear space around the QR pattern on printed material.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the QR image for free?

Yes. You can download the generated code as a PNG file.

Is a Wi-Fi password sent to the server?

The tool processes QR data in your browser. However, sharing the generated QR code may reveal the Wi-Fi connection details to others.
